members of parliament
Could anyone tell me if you are allowed to stand as a member of parliament if you have been convicted of a crime and served a prison sentence? I know that one of our members was sent to prison for three months for smuggling many years ago but came under a pardon or amnesty from the King. T

Just took a look of the Constitution, I probably know who you mean by your question..but anyway..Article 75 of Chapter 5 of the constitution states that a member of both houses of parliament should not have been sentenced for more than One Year and was pardoned.
so basically I think the Honorable Gentleman is in the clear..unfortunately!
This is a shame. Only one member of those miserable thieves was actually discovered and jailed?
thanks for the info averroes. It amazes me how much members of parliament get criticised. I would like to know how many of those who get angry actually know who their MP is and if they ever lobby him/her. T
Well I don't know mine..but its not merely the fault of the mps..its a common problem, when people are chosen on the basis of their family links and clan affiliation rather than what they have in their heads..that's the problem.
people choose mps for the sole purpose of having someone to call when they need a job..need someone to bail them out of jail..someone who would help them skip a law or two..or if I'm totally innocent in my assumption..to have a relative to brag about among their circles of friends..many of which highest aspiration is to take a photo next to an mp's license plate!
i'm not sure, but i can tell you that some members in the parliament or the government should be in jail rather than a critical position in the country
