can I sue Amman Municipality?
We all know how hazardous it is to walk, or try to walk, on Amman's pavements. Battling against trees planted in the middle, building works all over the place etc etc. I learnt this to my cost today when I fell over some builder's rubble on a pavement on Jebel Amman and broke my toe.
Now, can I sue the Municipality? Or is that a stupid question?!!! T

Not stupid at all! Hope you are okay though. Isn't it time that the Municipality of Amman took the issue of pavements more seriously. We have been complaining about this for years. How many more people have to break bones before action is taken.
It comes down to a simple matter of throwing out municipal regulations and installing new ones and for those at the GAM who don't seem to be getting the bigger picture here is a roundup of the problem:
1. The building codes and the Municipality require that individuals building their homes or a building are responsible for the stretch of pavement directly in front of said building.
2. As a result of this very short-sighted policy no two pavements throughout the city are the same, either aesthetically, or in shape or in size.
3. End result, each individual who has built a bulding considers that small stretch of public right of way as their own and consequently an extension of their own front garden/office/hotel/consulate/embassy/et al.
4. End result - pedestrians have no right of way.
5. Solution - chuck out this short sighted policy right now - ie today. And let's make the GAM responsible for all the city's new pavements; let them fix all the old ones with holes in them; and make them force construction companies to put their debris somewhere else not on the pavement.
After all, isn't that why we the people are taxed so highly - so that we can at least walk freely in our city without fear?
First.. salamat .. I hope your toe feels better by now .. second .. you are 100% right .. the pedestrians have no way right , pavements in many streets has turned into extra parking spaces or an extension of an inside garden .. Where you can hardly walk on Personally , I find myself obligated most of the time to walk on the street , as I find it somehow risky to walk on pavements .. not to mention the weird looks that you may get of people's eyes if you were walking on THEIR pavement .. as if you are spying or intruding their personal space ! and the photo's you've posted speaks more than words ..
salamtek, and yes it's a stupid question although it shouldn't be. Hope you'll get better.
Why do we need pavements?!!! we Jordanians can fly as u might no, you are right. :(
