looking from afar

I am not ashamed to be British but I am totally ashamed of the British government. I just cannot believe that they are condoning and supporting the Israeli agression in Lebanon. It certainly is a world gone mad where human values seem to be thrown out of the window by those very countries who hold themselves up to be pillars of democracy and civililization. Pah!!! T

You forget that even when the Brits and the Americans were told about the lies and fabrications surrounding the murderous invasion of Iraq they still voted for the same guys who "lied" them. What does that say about the majority of Americans and Brits?

Never forget that the elected UK and American governments were the two countries who vetoed any effort in the UN to end the Iraq sanctions which blokced the flow of essential medicnes and water sanitation chemicals resulting in the slow death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, mostly infants.

Stop covering for the people as if their elected government act without their consent. Want to solve the problem, you have to confront the purpetrators. what good is democracy if it does not come with accountabilty.

Indeed, we should never be ashamed of who we are.
Anonymous the media influences people so much in the west, and let's face it it's a whole other world over there, far away from mid-eastern problems. I would imagine they would elect someone who would serve their country in the first place, whether he will be 'nice' to other countries is another story.

p.s. This is a true Jordanian blog! and I am happy to have read each and every post the ladies have posted.

"the media influences people so much in the west"

Please stop this. We atre not talking about a Stalinist country. Influnce is not the same as DICTATE. in the era of the internet and free sattalite TV and radio, people in a free society CHOOSE their sources of info. This is like saying pro-slavery Americans were influnced by the media. Enough of giving those who DON'T CARE about the misery and violence inflicted by their chosen governments excuses. The UK media did not cover the lies leading to the invasion of Iraq. Yet most Brits found that their wallets are more important than Arab lives. Please don't offend us with such talk about media control in a free country.

well anonymous (3rd comment), I certainly did not say anything about the media in my blog so I don't know where your comments are coming from. And as for anonymous (first comment)I have not forgetten that elected governments do things that many of us disagree with but most people choose their governments not because of their policy in the Middle East but what they are going to do for themselves personally, eg taxes, employment, health issues etc. T

Anonymous, if I undestand you correctly, you're suggesting that a foreign country 'should' defend my country's interests?

I do not see why we must rely on other countries' governments to solve our problems. Instead of blaming them why not work on our issues. If you want people to stop invading your privacy you need to put your walls up.
We need to revolutionise and innovate, self-sufficiency would be nice for a change too.
