How embarrassing!
I wondered why all the Jordan Festival adverts on the roads were solely in Arabic and I got my answer in today's Jordan Times. Unfortunately I cannot link to the page as it is an advert but here is a flavour -
.......We will host the participants and guests of Jordan tourists and falsely Mqmin to share the joy of Jordan on this Earth that are landmarks, culture and spirit of the contributions made by the human civilization and the global cultural Building ..............Proud of the Higher Committee of the festival and all the Jordanian cadres working for the preparation and implementation that the effectiveness of more than 240 free Bukha citizen to enjoy and guest and resident in the elite world of creativity, music and singing, the peoples of the world Vlchor..........Once again we invite you to participate in and enjoy the cultural advancement of the status of which are to foster our development and the pursuit of Jordan seeks to accelerate the pace of rescue.
I bet the minister Sabri Rbeihat is furious, that is if he knows, as he speaks perfect English. I found it funny and sad at the same time. Firstly that the Ministry of Culture allowed this to happen and secondly that the Jordan Times accepted the advert. They even got the website address incorrect as I tried to access it. Hope this is not all a reflection on how the Festival will be run! T

That explains why I couldn't find any information on the event in English. See my rant at

It's really sad to see the festival go down to this level, we had great hopes after the work we saw last year. Clearly the ministry of culture is not the right choice to manage such an event
it's an obvious work of google translate.
jerash festival was a great event screwed up by the government's "Jordan First" propaganda.
Oh, this is hardly believable! Very very embarrassing.
i have the ad in question... how can i post it here?
Anon - Suggest you cut and paste it as a comment!
Other than that anyone who has the Jordan Times of 5 July 2009 will find the large ad on page 10 ....
This minister may have perfect English .... but he is proving a rather heavy handed liability at the Culture Ministry due to his peculiar notions of brotherhood (note the short and swiftly removed commentary on www.khaberni.com that exposed His Excellency's physical attack on a disgruntled citizen that sent him flying across the floor of the offices of the Ministry of Culture!) Also note his false sense of brotherhood when he stops prominent Jordanian actors from appearing in said festival due to pressure from the anti-normalisation nuts at the union! Is this the cultural image Jordan wants ... ? J
Today's Jordan Times has a full back page advertisement in good English for the Jordan Festival!!! T
... which, I would like to point out says absolutely nothing, except that a certain Dr Sabri is Minister of Culture and Head of the Jordan Festival Committee!
... so just where is the programme????
