Mustafa Salameh
A sense of pride overwhelmed me when I saw the picture in the Al Ghad newspaper on the breakfast table of Mustafa Salameh standing on top of Mount Everest holding the Jordanian flag high above his head. Mustafa is the first Jordanian to reach the summit of the world, and the third Arab, sharing the honour with an Egyptian and a Kuwaiti who reached the peak a few years ago. He achieved his ambition third time around and he did it on Jordan's Independence Day - 25 May.
Considering that this young Jordanian comes from a country that has a semi arid landscape, with harsh desert climates and a couple of hills that pass for mountains, it is quite a remarkable feat. It was rather a charming thought too when I realised that he went from the lowest point on earth (Dead Sea) to the highest!

It never ceases to amaze when man finds the 'will to the way forward' .... pity the political leaders of this world have yet to learn this lesson. J

Yes, many congratulations to Mustafa. Shame that it came when his wife said he had to choose between her and Everest and he chose Everest. Hope they get back together again. T

"Joladies" (sounds so condesending to women) you need to know that Mustafa and his wife were not really happily married from the beginning. They got married so that they could live together without Allah (or Mustafa's family) making any judgement calls so they could get to know each other better. The two of them had an agreement that they would not have children - this was just a time for them to get to know each other better. When she got pregnant, all hell broke lose. They fought and fought - this was a betrayal for him. Their failed relationship had more to do with her getting pregnant - when it went against their agreement - than that he was going after his dream. She always knew this was his dream. She did not support this dream by getting pregnant - or by not taking their agreed upon precautions to do so. You must see his side of it "Joladies." He is a respectable man...and his wife (x-wife made her choices and lost). They have a lovely son.
Joladies - get real - please remember other perspectives.

I can only assume the "Joladies" are men as the comments they have made about Mostafa's ex wife is appauling. I suspect his hands were not tied when they created their son.
Mostafa is most definately the looser. He has lost the love of a child and the chance to see him grow and flourish nothing comes even close to that. Most people dream of the chance to see the world in peace and good health. How the thought of bringing a healthy child into the world was so disapointing to him is beyond reason. If you or any muslim believes in god then wasn't it gods will that their son even exists?
The mother of his son has provided a safe and loving home and very bright future for their child and that is more than can be said of Mostafa.
I wonder what next adventure he is putting his hand out for?
Because it appears its all about what financial gain he can get from his exploits not any dreams he may have!
You can't throw children away!
God willing his son will be here long after he has gone and "WOW" what a legacy Mostafa will leave behind, his son will always know his father was disapointed in his creation!

He is not a hero, he beat his female client very severly last season in nepal, and attempted to rape her. Thankfully she got away... He spent a night in jail but nepal has zero womens rights.. he is in a lawsuit now for what he did to that poor girl. He is not a humanitarian or religious. Mr Salameh is a lovely man, happily married with 3 boys who he love dearly.

If convicted, Maralan faces a maximum sentence of 34 years to life in state prison, according to the OCDA.
